Join USGBC-Central California as we guide you through the 15 categories of Scope 3 emissions, specifically focusing on emissions relevant to the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. We will delve into practical strategies for immediate reductions and showcase best practices for demonstrating your leadership through certification. Building materials, furniture, and equipment account for a significant portion of a building or building owner’s greenhouse gas emissions, often called a ‘carbon footprint.’ This carbon, also known as embodied carbon, is part of the Scope 3 emissions of a building or company. To limit climate change to 1.5C of warming, it’s crucial for all of us-owners, manufacturers, suppliers, and vendors to collaborate and significantly reduce the embodied emissions associated with the materials, furniture, and equipment we procure. Unlike operational emissions, which occur over the life of a facility, embodied emissions are already released before the building’s creation or the company’s action. This underscores the immediate need for collective action to reduce embodied emissions as part of the procurement process to contribute to the Paris Accord effectively. Upon completion of this workshop and a 20-question exam, participants will receive a certificate of completion from USGBC-CA. This course qualifies for 2 GBCI CEU credits.
